PLANT CITY, Fla. – It’s around this time of year to celebrate all about the strawberry. 🍓

From the fresh berries themselves to strawberry cake, strawberry jam, strawberry cake and so on, the Florida Strawberry Festival 2021 is possibly the cutest event in the Tampa Bay area.

This year’s festival takes place in Plant City from Thursday, March 4th to Sunday, March 14th. Just set the GPS to 2209 W. Oak Ave.

Why strawberries?

It’s about celebrating local agriculture in Florida! According to the festival site, the multi-day event began in 1930 when the Plant City Lions Club wanted to celebrate the region’s “abundant” strawberry harvest. The festival has continued to this day without a six-year hiatus during and shortly after World War II.

What about this great harvest? If it was “plentiful” then, it is massive now.

There were 10,000 acres of strawberries in the 2019-20 season, producing £ 25,000 to £ 30,000 per acre, according to Hillsborough County.
