On a dreary London day, atop the photogenic balcony at The Corinthia Hotel—one of the more iconic photocall locales of our modern era—two bright flares in blaring pink outfits stood out against the city’s gray skies. They were stars, yes—but not the ones you may be thinking of. They were Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Pierce Brosnan, both wearing shocking pink and gleaming Hollywood grins.
Johnson, in a punch-pink knit polo (Hollywood’s favorite kind of shirt) and black leather bomber from Dolce & Gabbana with shiny Louboutin shoes, and Brosnan, in a magenta two-piece Viggo London suit curiously paired with pointy brown loafers, posed alongside their castmates in the upcoming DC vehicle Black Adam. Though their fellow actors opted for duds that more closely fit the atmospheric U.K. weather—Noah Centineo went for a navy barn jacket and scuffed-up white Vans—it turns out that the instance of the movie’s two titans both wearing pink was merely happenstance: The Rock’s stylist Ilaria Urbinati confirmed in a comment on her Instagram post that it was all just a “nice coincidence.”
As two esteemed men over 50, The Rock and Brosnan each had their big breakouts in the 1990s, which means that, without necessarily trying to, they’ve each been through the menswear ringer. (Lest we forget what an outfit heater Mr. 007 was on in the ’90s.) The Rock even said so himself a few months ago, in an Instagram caption he penned about a British GQ headline he fetched over the summer: “I’ve come a long way from rockin’ fanny packs to a big, brown, bald, tattooed style iconoclast,” The Rock wrote. “But I have learned, that ‘style’ is never trying too hard – just be you. Confidence. Vibe. Soul.”
And what says “Confidence. Vibe. Soul.” like retina-shocking magenta?
