John Eastman has notified the 1/6 Committee that he will plead the Fifth mainly because he is scared his responses will direct to a legal investigation of him.
Eastman’s law firm wrote to 1/6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson:
I am crafting to you in response to the November 5 subpoena to my consumer John Eastman, requesting testimony and generation of files. Dr. Eastman hereby asserts his Fifth Modification proper not to be a witness towards himself in response to your subpoena. As described under, Dr. Eastman has confronted solutions from several sources that he must be criminally investigated for his service as an adviser to former President Trump.
Members of this pretty Committee have openly spoken of making legal referrals to the Department of Justice and described the Committee in phrases of determining guilt or innocence.’ Dr. Eastman has a much more than reasonable worry that any statements he would make pursuant to this subpoena will be applied in an attempt to mount a felony investigation against him.
Eastman has gone from almost everything was legal and wonderful to I really do not want to be criminally investigated, so I am taking the Fifth.
