Sen. Monthly bill Cassidy (R-La.) mentioned Sunday he would not vote for Donald Trump if he ran for president yet again in 2024.
Through an interview with Axios co-founder Mike Allen, Cassidy stated he doesn’t know if Trump will run in 2024, but disputed the assumption that the previous president would earn the GOP nomination if he did.
“President Trump is the very first president ― in the Republican aspect at minimum ― to lose the Residence, the Senate and the presidency in four several years. Elections are about successful,” he mentioned.
“If you want to earn the presidency ― and hopefully which is what voters are contemplating about ― I feel he may possibly [not win the nomination],” he additional.
Allen noticed that it was “clear you ain’t voting for him.”
“I’m not,” Cassidy explained.

It’s not the initially time the Louisiana Republican has been amid a small minority in his bash to split from Trump. He was 1 of seven GOP senators to vote to convict Trump at the January impeachment demo.
Trump was impeached by the Property for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol but acquitted by the Senate.
Cassidy instructed Allen he voted to convict due to the fact he took “an oath to aid and protect the Constitution. And when there was a sample of behavior that culminated as it did on January the 6th — and we’ve had revelations considering that — that just led me to that conclusion.”
He was censured by the Louisiana Republican bash for doing so. Requested about it, Cassidy mentioned: “Yeah they just chose to censure. I slept extremely effectively that night time.”
