Shreveport native and recent graduate of Louisiana State University, Mariah Clayton, understands the importance of representing her state as Miss Louisiana. Clayton recently shared her thoughts on what the title means to her and how it has prepared her for the future.
Growing up in Louisiana, Clayton watched the Miss Louisiana pageant on television, and she would attend the Miss Louisiana USA pageant with her family every year. The pageants have been a significant part of her life, and she knew since she was a little girl that she wanted to be a part of it.
Clayton began her pageant journey by competing in the Miss Louisiana Teen USA pageant where she won the title of Miss Louisiana Teen USA in 2015. This achievement led Clayton to represent Louisiana in the Miss Teen USA pageant. She then competed in the Miss Louisiana USA pageant for two years before winning the title of Miss Louisiana in 2021.
When asked about what the Miss Louisiana title means to her, Clayton expressed that it was an honor to be able to represent her state and her community. She believes that the title is more than just a crown or a sash, but it is a representation of the values and goodness of Louisiana that she strives to embody.
Clayton has embarked on a journey to spread awareness of her platform, “D.A.R.E. to Care: Drug Abuse Resistance Education.” Her mission is to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse and to provide them with tools to say no to these harmful substances.
