LONDON (AP) – British soldiers, sailors and Air Force personnel finalized on Friday for the funeral of Prince Philip, a martial but personal service that marked the death of a royal patriarch who was also among the dwindling veterans of World War II.

More than 700 service members will attend Saturday’s memorial service at Windsor Castle, including army bands, Royal Navy buglers and an honor guard from all armed forces.

However, due to the restrictions of the coronavirus, instead of the 800 mourners who entered burial plans last week before Philip’s death, only 30 will be at St. George’s Chapel, including the widowed Queen Elizabeth II and her four children.

Philip, who died on April 9 at the age of 99, was closely involved in planning his funeral, which will reflect his service in the Royal Navy and lifelong military relationships – and his love for the rugged Land Rover Defender. Philip drove several versions of the four-wheel drive vehicle for decades until he was forced to give up his driver’s license after an accident at the age of 97. His body is painted military green on a modified Land Rover he designed himself and brought to the chapel with the back open to carry a coffin.

He and the Queen’s children – Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward – will walk behind the hearse. This also applies to the grandchildren Prince William and Prince Harry, albeit not side by side. The brothers, whose relationship has been strained due to Harry’s decision to give up royal duties and move to California, will flank their cousin Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne.
