Versace has long ruled Hollywood red carpets, lacing supermodels and starlets in fits so bold and glamorous they have, literally, changed the course of history—as when Google Images was invented thanks to Jennifer Lopez and her audacious jungle print Versace gown in 2000. So who better than Donatella Versace to unofficially kick off Oscars weekend with a stacked red carpet of her own before her Fall-Winter 2023 runway show on Thursday night in LA. “For me, Los Angeles is a natural home for us because we share the DNA of energy, power, creativity, and imagination,” the designer said in a statement. The guest list reflected this pedigree in spades, too, with Oscar winners Cher and Elton John rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lil Nas X and Ke Huy Quan, who’s hoping to bring home his first little gold man at the Academy Awards on Sunday. Naturally, the Versace VIPs went all out for the occasion—consider it a warm up before they pull out their bow ties and velvet jackets come later this weekend.
