The internet is going wild over an interaction between Harry Styles and Chris Pine.

During the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling at the Venice International Film Festival on Monday evening, Styles took his seat next to Pine, with fans speculating that he spit on the actor in the process.

A video began circulating online showing Styles leaning over Pine and puckering his lips before sitting down. At the exact moment, Pine, who was clapping in the audience, immediately stopped and looked down at his hands in disbelief before eventually laughing in amusement. Pine’s reaction left many fans wondering if Styles actually spit on the actor.

Shortly after the video went viral on Twitter, #SpitGate started trending as the internet put on its detective gear to figure out what really happened between the two.

A fan took to Twitter, stating, “#HarryStyles appears to spit on Chris Pine I won’t sleep until I know the truth”

Twitter users even located different angles of the video to see if Styles actually spit on the Star Trek actor. “We have another angle, I repeat, we have another angle,” one fan tweeted.

While the internet will naturally continue to dissect every frame of the clip for days to come, a rep for Pine spoke with PEOPLE about the interaction and debunked #SpitGate, suggesting it is “a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.”

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine,” the rep said in the statement, adding,”There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

A rep for Styles has yet to comment on the situation. It remains unclear what diverted Pine’s attention at the exact moment Styles took his seat.

Styles stars in Don’t Worry Darling alongside Pine and Florence Pugh. The story is set in the 1950’s and follows a young couple—Jack (Styles) and Alice (Pugh)—who live in the town of Victory, California where things seem to be going perfect until everything comes crashing down with Jack’s company, leaving Alice to speculate whether they are hiding some disturbing secrets.

Don’t Worry Darling hits theaters on Sept. 23.
