But the Maulers’ defense stiffened up, and the Stallions were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. A missed field goal by Trout kept the game within reach for Pittsburgh.
The Maulers soon took advantage of their chance to take a commanding lead, with Rozier breaking free for an impressive run that set up another touchdown. The Stallions’ defense struggled to contain the Maulers’ explosive offense, with Anderson and Flowers continuing to rack up yards and make big plays.
With time running out, the Stallions knew that they had to step up their game if they wanted to avoid a disappointing loss. They mounted a furious comeback attempt, with Stoudt throwing a touchdown pass to Smith and then setting up another score with a long pass to Jim Smith. However, with only a few seconds left on the clock, the Stallions were unable to recover an onside kick, and the Maulers emerged victorious with a score of 28-24.
